HUNT WRITE UP BY TONY SMITH

WHAT TO EXPECT

After my first trip to St. Paul Island, it has been beckoning my name to return. One of the biggest highlights in my waterfowl hunting career was to step foot on this rock and harvest a King Eider. This hunt is not for the faint of heart or someone with no patience - this is the most extreme waterfowl hunt one can embark on. 30mph wind, snow, ice and 15 ft swells are to be expected on an average day. This hunt will test your drive, heart, inner sole and spit you out in disbelief, overly ecstatic when your first King Eider is finally bagged. I look forward to this journey once again and exponentially experiencing it with the other three of the 41.

  • Late Season

  • Weather expected to be highly extreme, heavy rain and snow, with temps below zero fahrenheit, winds from 20-50 mph

  • Traveling to hunting areas will be by boat only, with the except on of bad weather there is an option to hunt northwest point by pass shooting birds

  • Targeted species = King Eider

  • Secondary species = Harlequin, Old Squaw, White-Wing Scoter, Black Scoter

  • Hunting will be out of tender boats or Zodiacs when weather permits

King Eider / Harlequin / Old Squaw / White-Wing Scoter / Black Scoter
