HUNT WRITE UP BY LUKE CLARK

WHAT TO EXPECT

I grew up hunting in Central Illinois, but over the years spent time traveling all over the state. From chasing birds in the Illinois River valley to public access ducks in Southern Illinois’ Crab Orchard Nat. Refuge and Pyramid State Park. The state holds plenty of opportunity to chase waterfowl from September all the way through March, you just have to be willing to commute and knock on landowners’ doors.

  • Mostly private access, with the occasional public access opportunity on state-ran lakes and marshes (especially south of I-80).

  • Boat Recommended if you plan to chase ducks

  • A little cash and a good attitude can grant you access into some stellar Canada goose hunts in the northern side of the state

  • Grain Fields, Smartweed Marshes, River bottoms and Lakes

  • Targeted Species - Canada Geese, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Specklebelly, Snow Geese
